SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

 

The Industrial Engineer (Operations Specialist) is responsible for developing efficient systems that integrate employees, machines, materials, information and energy to enable production and eliminate wastefulness in the production processes of the company.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES:

 

As an employee of Lindsay Africa, the employee’s responsibilities are, but not limited to:

 

1. Project Management and Implementation of the Lindsay Production System (LPS) through collaboration with colleagues.

 

2.Productivity improvements and capability development

 

Identify, review and evaluate production schedules, engineering specifications, process flows, and manufacturing to understand methods that are applied and activities that take place in manufacturing and services.

 

3. ERP (Microsoft NAV) system improvement and update Product Design in Navision (BOM, Routing & Costing).

 

4.Industrialisation of Products

 

    1. Prioritise products to be industrialised.
    2. Agree with management on timeframe for implementation.
    3. Collaborate with Production Manager to ensure products are industrialised (designed, tooling prepared, development)

 

5.Update equipment capacity plan and ensure sufficient capacity to produce to forecast.

a. If required, research, specify, obtain quotes, order, receive and install addition equipment.

 

b. Hand over maintenance plans to maintenance responsible person.

 

6. Assist in Ensuring quality requirements for products

 

7. Train production employees in production processes and Lean Manufacturing principles as well as LPS (Lindsay Production System).

 

8. Manage continuous improvement initiatives and LPS.

 

9. Assists with after sales support when requested by management.

 

10. Develop management control systems to make financial planning and cost analysis more efficient.

 

11. In terms of LPS, Enact quality control procedures to resolve production problems or minimize costs.

 

12. Design control systems (Kanban) to coordinate activities and production planning.

 

13. Operational Compliance

 

        Ensure all operations adhere to the relevant legislation, guidelines, Health & Safety, SOP’s and ISO requirements. 

 

14. Assist in managing the Health and Safety Requirements of the Company

 

Assisting the 17(2) and GMR(2) with Health and safety standards/compliance.

 

 

REQUIRED STANDARDS (JOB HOLDER AND HIS/HER DEPARTMENT) IN TERMS OF MEASUREMENT / KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI’s)

1. Accurate and up to date data in ERP system (routings, BOM’s and Costings)

2. LPS implementation which will result in productivity improvement leading to reduced manufacturing costs.  

3. Well trained workforce on LPS system.

4. Proper development and execution of work plans and assignments.  

5. Health and Safety incidents reported consistently to the global company.

 

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Competencies:

• Able to work both independently and as part of a Team,

• Ability to apply technical standards,

• Ability to interpret and apply technical specifications as contained in technical drawings related to the specific manufacturing environment,

• Ability to read and practically apply assembly details (as contained in technical drawings) in the manufacturing process as it relates to the specific job.

• Safety awareness (basic knowledge of Health and Safety requirements)

 • Quality Awareness

 

Education/ Qualification: 

 

Preferred/Recommended:           Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Industrial Engineering

Experience:       

 

Preferred/Recommended            1 - 3 years’ relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment.
