Position Summary:
The BTM Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Barrier Transfer Machine (BTM) system, ensuring safety, efficiency, and exceptional service delivery along the Interstate 30 corridor. This role will directly supervise a team of machine operators, mechanics, as well as traffic control technicians, providing leadership, training, and performance management. The Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with safety protocols, managing routine and preventative maintenance schedules, and serving as a key liaison with TXDOT and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Scheduling
- Oversee daily opening and closing of the H.O.V. lane using BTM, support vehicles and associated equipment, ensuring all shifts are staffed and on-time performance meets contract expectations.
- Assign work schedules for machine operators and mechanics to meet operational demands and maintenance needs.
- Monitor machine, support vehicles and other associated equipment availability, status, and readiness, ensuring all required inspections and logs are completed daily.
- Assist with operational duties when needed, including operating the BTM, mechanical maintenance and repairs, traffic control, or supporting incident response.
Maintenance Oversight
- Ensure all equipment, including BTM machines and support vehicles, are properly maintained according to manufacturer guidelines and internal standards.
- Supervise routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities, ensuring timely resolution of defects or mechanical issues.
- Coordinate with engineering or external vendors for complex repairs or equipment upgrades.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and service logs for all assets.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce a safety-first culture among all team members, ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, and internal safety procedures.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure operator and mechanic adherence to Storm Water Protection regulations and all environmental standards.
- Report and manage safety concerns or equipment failures that could pose a risk to the public, employees, or infrastructure.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate machine operators and mechanics, promoting teamwork and accountability.
- Provide onboarding, job-specific training, and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Address attendance issues, performance concerns, or conduct violations in coordination with HR.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain a professional and proactive relationship with TXDOT representatives and other external partners.
- Serve as the point of contact for on-site escalations and collaborate with leadership to resolve conflicts or service disruptions.
- Support data reporting and communication related to project performance and compliance metrics.
Qualifications:
- An Associate’s degree or Automotive or Diesel Mechanics Certificate obtained from program outside of High School required.
- 3+ years of experience working with heavy equipment operations and/or maintenance.
- Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred (formal management experience not required).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, DOT standards, and environmental compliance guidelines.
- Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Etc.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or emergencies.
- Must comply with Lindsay Corporation’s zero-tolerance drug policy.
- Must complete TXDOT approved Traffic Incident Management course within 90 days of hire.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to climb onto equipment, crouch under machines, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking outdoors in varied weather conditions (weather conditions include extreme cold and heat, rain, etc.)
- Exposure to noise, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.
- Exposure to live traffic
