Job Title: Surface Mount Support Specialist

Location: Olathe, Kansas

Department: Surface Mount Technology (SMT)

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Hours: Monday through Thursday 6:00am to 3:30pm.  Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm.  Every other Friday off.  Occasional extension of typical hours may be necessary, depending upon business needs.

 

Position Summary

    • The Surface Mount Support Specialist is responsible for supporting SMT production operations by preparing, loading, auditing, and maintaining feeder setups used in automated circuit board assembly. This role ensures materials are accurately prepared and available for SMT machine operators to maintain efficiency and quality. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Load electronic components onto SMT feeders and verify proper feeder pitch settings.
    • Install feeders into designated trolley locations according to setup documentation.
    • Verify feeder locations using load lists, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
    • Unload feeders upon completion of production runs.
    • Conduct audits of production kits to ensure component accuracy and availability.
    • Assist SMT technicians and machine operators with machine setup and changeovers.
    • Review and follow process sheets, visual aids, and production documentation.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to setup efficiency and material flow.
    • Identify and report quality concerns, shortages, and documentation discrepancies.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following 6S and company safety standards.
    • Crosstrain in SMT operations and provide support to other manufacturing areas as needed.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to follow written work instructions and process documentation.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Experience in electronics manufacturing or SMT production environments.
    • Experience with SMT equipment and feeder systems.
    • Experience interpreting bills of materials (BOMs), load lists, and manufacturing documentation.

 

 

Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
    • Frequently lift, move, and manipulate materials and assemblies up to 10 pounds.
    • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, and arms.
