Position Description

The Hardware Engineer Intern will support the design, development, testing, and validation of electronic hardware used in Lindsay's connected IoT solutions. This internship provides hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers on new product development and existing product enhancements. The intern will gain exposure to hardware design processes, circuit analysis, testing methodologies, and cross-functional product development while contributing to innovative technologies that serve customers worldwide.

 

Position Details

This is a full-time summer internship based at our global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Interns will work on meaningful engineering projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and gain valuable exposure to the development of hardware solutions used in real-world applications.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, development, and testing of electronic hardware and embedded systems for IoT products.
  • Support hardware validation activities by conducting tests, collecting data, and documenting results.
  • Assist engineers in evaluating prototypes, troubleshooting issues, and verifying design improvements.
  • Collaborate with firmware, software, quality, and product engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Help create and maintain hardware documentation, test procedures, schematics, and technical reports.
  • Participate in laboratory testing and assist with setting up and utilizing test equipment.
  • Analyze test results and help identify opportunities for product improvements.
  • Support investigations related to hardware performance, reliability, and functionality.
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and engineering discussions to learn industry best practices.
  • Present project outcomes and recommendations to engineering leadership and team members at the conclusion of the internship.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing preferred.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, electronics, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with circuit analysis and electronic components through coursework or project experience.
  • Interest in hardware design, IoT technologies, and embedded systems.
  • Exposure to laboratory equipment and testing processes is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects.

 

Preferred Technical Exposure

Experience through coursework, projects, robotics clubs, design teams, or personal projects in one or more of the following areas is beneficial:

  • Analog and digital circuits
  • Microcontrollers and embedded hardware
  • PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, Eagle, or similar)
  • Schematic capture and circuit design
  • Oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and logic analyzers
  • Digital communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, RS485)
  • Sensor integration and data acquisition
  • Hardware troubleshooting and debugging
  • Basic programming experience with C, C++, or Python
