Position Description

Lindsay Corporation is hiring a Traffic Control Estimator, for its Infrastructure division. The ideal person for this role will delight in interfacing and collaborating with the sales team, project manager and project delivery team, to provide technical support pre- and post-sale.  

 

Furthermore, this person will assist in preparing and planning Road Zipper proposals (see this link if you don’t already know what a Road Zipper is:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MeQnStAH0U) for transportation projects and assist in the delivery and execution of projects. This person will also be responsible to review roadway project details (plans and specifications), assist in identifying project and customer needs to provide a review of Road Zipper application.

 

An ideal candidate must have a solutions-based thinking for both work zone and urban freeway management transportation applications. In addition to critical thinking skills, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to work professionally with co-workers (a group of professional innovators – who enjoy achieving great things together) and with existing and potential customers to support our Road Zipper sales team.

 

Position Details

The Transportation Engineer role presents an opportunity to be a part of a highly collaborative, customer facing commercial team. The Transportation Engineer will receive guidance from the Senior Manager, AE and the strategic/commercial leadership team to assist in technical support for planning, review and delivery of contracted projects (i.e. this position will not reside in a vacuum, as this person will play an intricate role in the overall success of the division).

 

*** This position may include an average of up to 50% travel in the first 6 months and estimated 20% travel thereafter.

 

Please note, this position does not offer VISA sponsorship nor does it have to be located in the Omaha area (Ideally, yes, we’d love to have this person close to HQ but it’s not a “make or break” situation).

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in technical support for highway or roadway construction, traffic control/traffic plan for work zone or managed lanes around Road Zipper application and use.
  • Review bid specifications, traffic control plans and project needs, as pertinent to Road Zipper application and use.
  • Prepare and provide CAD drawings and Road Zipper application schematics and proposals for the project.
  • Provide technical guidance to the sales team on feasibility and application of Road Zipper.
  • Coordinate with the sales team for calls, video conferences and potential meetings with DOT customers and engineering consulting firms to review and discuss customer needs, goals and Lindsay Road Zipper potential solutions.
  • Work closely with the sales team to ensure that the technical information provided on traffic control/engineering and Road Zipper application is meeting client needs and best positioning the company’s offering to win profitable business.
  • Assist in ensuring the proposals meet or exceed internal and industry standards, rules, regulations, laws, best practices, and customer expectations.
  • Participate in industry associations and societies to better understand customer needs, rules and regulations, and emerging trends in traffic engineering, managed lanes, and work zones.
  • Conduct reviews and create reports for executive staff, as requested.
  • Support the sales team in securing growth opportunities, offering new ideas that better meet customer requirements and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Create technical documents and/or material (as needed) for integration into a total Lindsay proposal for presentation to customers.
  • Interface with the post-sales project manager and their team to ensure a seamless transition to meet or exceed customer expectations through final delivery of the project.
  • Communicate with the sales team in post presentation question and answer sessions, proposal revisions and refinements.
  • Assist in establishing best practices and technical documentation for Road Zipper applications.
  • Serve as an exemplary team player and proactively work to resolve problems and continuously improve.  Actively seek solutions to customer problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent 5-10 years of relevant experience in roadway safety, roadway safety product, product application engineering, traffic engineering, traffic control, or roadway construction, especially with state departments of transportation, contractors or consultants (including highway and bridge construction, traffic mobility and control planning and delivery consultants).
  • Highway traffic control planning and design, traffic safety equipment and products, roadway/freeway projects and/or managed lanes project experience is preferred.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of traffic engineering and maintenance of traffic control plans and ability to analyze, determine feasibility and integration of road safety and mobility solution applications.
  • Experience in and understanding of transportation industry associations, agencies, and organizations such as AASHTO, TRB, ATSSA, ITSA, ITE, ASCE, state departments of transportation, consultants, contractors, toll authorities, concessionaires, FHWA, partners, stakeholders, etc.
  • Knowledge of roadway design and construction, state bid lettings, alternative delivery methods such as design-build, P3 and performance contracting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills are preferred.
  • Experience and background related to successfully delivering application engineering solutions using industry acceptable practices and collaborating with both technical and non-technical team members, inducing sales, quality assurance, business analysts, engineering, production and product managers is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to develop and execute schedules on-time.
  • Willingness to cross-train as a technical sales manager.
  • Experience internationally and with other cultures helpful.
  • Knowledge of or experience in a manufacturing culture helpful.
